Elise to the ER

Tuesday evening, 6:30pm--The girls are playing outside. Is that screams or laughter I hear? I should check.....Definitely hysterical screams from Kaila and painful cries from Elise with blood on half of her face. I get the blood cleaned off and examine the damage, Kaila is beside herself, and Grant is called. Kaila explains that they were on the double swing and she was only going medium and Elise wasn't hanging on....needless to say, she fell off, hit her head on the metal seat and flipped--resulting in a 1 inch gash above her right eye and small cut to her chin.
7:30pm--We arrive at Children's after making a couple of phone calls since this is our first major wound. Staff at referral center was great and sent us over to an observation room at the ER--which was wonderful because we didn't have to be in the waiting room for the next 7-8 hours. They wanted to sedate her, so we had to wait 6 hours since she last ate...then they were short nurses to help with the procedure. Finally, at about 1:30am she was put under, sewed up with 3 stitches, and supervised until she was back to normal. We finally got home about 3:30am and slept until 10am.

Kaila is more traumatized by this than Elise, because she blames herself. Elise will never remember it, and I pray the scar won't be too bad. I knew this day would come, and figured it would be Elise first---but I didn't get my first stitches until I was 5, so I thought we might have a few more years.

I'm off to Salt Lake City tomorrow for my girl's weekend--after the last couple of weeks, I am so ready!

Ther is always one child who is more accident prone. In my family it was my brother. I would get things like sprained ankles, during office hours, so I could go to the pedi. Will would get huge cuts and injuries, after office hours, so we had to go to the ER. Luckily we lived a few 100 feet from the hospital.

Katherine looked at the pics and said, "Oh no, Elise has a band aid on a boo boo on her head.

Poor Elise! Although I feel worse for Kaila! She looks fairly happy in all the pictures though. :) Have a great time at your girl's weekend!!!

I feel so bad for Kaila! I hope she isn't too traumatized.

Boys will be boys...Oh...I mean don't they all romp around and wreak havoc when you least expect it! Glad all is well! I'm sure your girls weekend was welcomed with open arms. XOXO
